The 71st 2019 Emmy Awards nominations were announced today by the Television Academy, presenting the widest array of first time nominees since 2011. You can find the full list of the 2019 Production Design Emmy nominations below.
In a ceremony hosted by Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma along with presenters Ken Jeong (The Masked Singer) and D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place), not only were new faces prominently recognized, but also an equally fresh group of shows together with acclaimed, veteran television programs.
HBO’s Game of Thrones secured 32 nominations, the most for any program in a single season, beating a 25-year standing record set by NYPD Blue. Over its eight season run, the series has received a total of 161 nominations. Game of Thrones was followed by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (20), Chernobyl (19), Saturday Night Live (18), Barry (17), Fosse/Verdon (17) and When They See Us (16).
The Best Production Design category includes many new shows nominated such as Escape at Dannemora, Killing Eve, and The Umbrella Academy in the One-Hour Narrative category. In the One-Hour Period production design category, new nominees include Chernobyl, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Fosse/Verdon.
For the first time ever actress, Catherine O’Hara, nominated for her role on Schitt’s Creek, will walk the red carpet with her husband Bo Welch who is also nominated for an Emmy this year as the production designer of A Series of Unfortunate Events. We wish them both luck.
The Creative Arts Emmys will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, and Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles. The 71st 2019 Emmy Awards will take place at the same location on Sunday, Sept. 22 and they will air live on Fox at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
